Top 10 Must See Lucha Underground Matches from Season one

We’re a little over a month removed from Ultima Lucha and the season finale of Lucha Underground. Since its premiere on October 29, 2014, its became a game-changer in the pro wrestling industry. The highly praised first season used great in-action and backstage segments that looked like something out of a film. If anyone unfamiliar with the Lucha Underground product, here’s some highlights from season one.

37 hours of Lucha Underground in 37 minutes.

The first season had 39 episodes, which includes the two Ultima Lucha episodes. With the 40 hours of action on the El Rey Network, here is what I think are the top 10 must see matches from the first season.

1) Johnny Mundo vs Prince Puma (All Night Long Iron Man Match)

Episode 32 Air Date: June 17, 2015

This episode has the top two talents in Lucha Underground wrestle all night long in an iron man match. These two battle it out for about 40 minutes in an action packed episode. There’s never a dull moment in this match.

2) Mil Muertes vs Fenix (Grave Consequences Casket Match)

Episode 19 Air Date: March 18, 2015

This was one of the most brutal matches of the first season.

3) Alberto El Patron vs Johnny Mundo (#1 Contenders Match)

Episode 26 Air Date: May 6, 2015

El Patron and Mundo face eachother in this amazing match to determine the #1 contender for Prince Puma’s Lucha Underground Championship.

4) Vampiro vs Pentagon Jr. (Cero Miedo Match)

Episode 39 Air Date: August 5, 2015

In the last episode of the season (Ultima Lucha II), Vampiro faced Pentagon Jr in another brutal match from LU. I went into this match with low expectations due to Vampiro being retired from in ring action, but this match exceeded all my expectations.

5) Son of Havoc, Ivelisse & Angelico vs The Crew (Trios Championship Finals Match)

Episode 24 Air Date: April 22, 2015

This match was the finals in a tournament to determine the first Trios Champions. There’s a moment in this match which had the internet buzzing all week long.

6) Fenix vs Pentagon Jr. vs Drago

Episode 3 Air Date: November 12, 2014

This match was early in the season and is the first time we’ve saw these three luchadors in action on this show. The three do not disappoint.

7) Aerostar vs Drago (Match 5 of 5)

Episode 23 Air Date: April 15, 2015

This was the final match in a best of 5 series between Aerostar and Drago. The winner gets a championship match against Prince Puma and the loser gets banished from the Lucha Underground temple.

8) Aztec Warfare

Episode 9 Air Date: January 7, 2015

20 luchadors enter the temple and the winner of the match becomes the first ever Lucha Underground Champion.

9) Prince Puma vs Mil Muertes (Lucha Underground Championship Match)

Episode 39 Air Date: August 5, 2015

This was the main event of the second night of Ultima Lucha, Prince Puma puts his Lucha Underground Championship on the line against the dominating Mil Muertes. See if Puma defeats the bigger and stronger opponent, and retains the championship or if Mil Muertes leaves the temple as the new LU Champion.

10) Mil Muertes vs Fenix (Death Match)

Episode 29 Air Date: May 27, 2015

Another grudge match in the heated rivalry between Mil Muertes and Fenix.

Fans and talent have gone to social media outlets such as Twitter to try to get Lucha Underground a new home on the streaming service Netflix. Ever since its finale people have been using the hashtag #NetflixNeedsLucha to try and get this trending and noticed. There’s no sign of when or where there will be a season 2, but for now all we can do is watch these great matches from season one and hope that one day we’ll see the much anticipated season two.
