On the May 11th edition of Monday Night Raw, Daniel Bryan made his way down the entrance ramp, with the Intercontinental Championship in his hand while wearing a button down plaid shirt and jeans. At this time Bryan stood in the middle of the ring with a microphone in hand, as 10,000 fans chanted “YES!” and relinquished the Intercontinental Championship. This felt like deja vu to WWE fans, as Daniel had to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship almost a year prior to this night. Despite the uncertainty in his career, wrestling fans we are still waiting for the day Bryan returns to a wrestling ring, wither it be for WWE or on the independent scene.
Even with having a 6 year career with WWE, there’s still matches that fans would like to see Daniel have, wither it has happened before or wither it’s a first time ever dream match. Here are my five picks for matches I would like to see Daniel Bryan have in a WWE ring.
5. vs Dolph Ziggler
Bryan and Ziggler have faced each other a number of times on Raw and Smackdown including one of his last matches on the Raw after WrestleMania 31, but have only had one singles match on Pay Per View at Bragging Rights 2010. Both men took to twitter last year and were campaigning for a match against each other at WM 31, which ended up being a 7-man ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. In an interview, Ziggler said the top name he would like to have an iron man match with is Bryan. This could be a modern day Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. I’m hoping this iron man match will happen one day, or a Mania match, or even a PPV match as these two have great chemistry.
4. vs AJ Styles
With AJ Styles recently signing with WWE a lot of people are throwing out dream matches that AJ could have with the current roster. One person that doesn’t get mentioned often because of his injury is Daniel Bryan. These two squared off a number of times on the independents including matches with Ring of Honor, PWG and smaller promotions such as IWA Mid-South. They haven’t faced each other in nearly 10 years, so why not revisit this match when both are much more matured inside the squared circle.
3. vs Chris Jericho
Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho has only had two TV matches together. The first, on the first episode of season one of NXT and the other on the February 11, 2013 edition of Raw. If given a proper program and/or feud and the right amount of time, Bryan and Jericho could have an instant classic together.
2. Shinsuke Nakamura
This match is the IWC’s wet dream. With WWE announcing the recent signing of Nakamura to their developmental system, NXT, this could be a dream match that could happen in the future.
1. Brock Lesnar
In 2014, it was heavily rumored that Brock Lesnar was going one on one with Daniel Bryan at the twenty-seventh annual SummerSlam. This rumor was circulating the internet but due to Daniel Bryan vacating the World Heavyweight Championship due to neck injury, this match never got to happen. Bryan said in an interview that a match with Lesnar is his number one dream match. Hopefully, one day we get this potential David vs Goliath story line. With these two top talents in one match, it’s bound to be great.
