As we get closer to the WWE Cruiserweight Classic (tonight) the excitement starts to get higher and higher. With 32 participants from all over the world competing in the 205 pound weight limit tournament, there’s seem to be some favorites going into the tournament. One of those favorites is Kota Ibushi from Japan.
Kota Ibushi started his career in the Japanese promotion DDT, and has wrestled in promotions such as Evolve, Ring of Honor, Chikara and in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he’s spent most of his career. He is a 3 time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, 2011 Best of the Super Juniors and 2015 New Japan Cup winner.
If you don’t know about Ibushi, here’s 5 matches to get you familiar with him before tonight’s Cruiserweight Classic on the WWE Network. These matches include some familiar faces such as Prince Devitt (now known as Finn Balor), El Generico (now known as Sami Zayn), and Shinsuke Nakamura (now signed with WWE).
NJPW: Prince Devitt vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
On the May 11th edition of Monday Night Raw, Daniel Bryan made his way down the entrance ramp, with the Intercontinental Championship in his hand while wearing a button down plaid shirt and jeans. At this time Bryan stood in the middle of the ring with a microphone in hand, as 10,000 fans chanted “YES!” and relinquished the Intercontinental Championship. This felt like deja vu to WWE fans, as Daniel had to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship almost a year prior to this night. Despite the uncertainty in his career, wrestling fans we are still waiting for the day Bryan returns to a wrestling ring, wither it be for WWE or on the independent scene.
Even with having a 6 year career with WWE, there’s still matches that fans would like to see Daniel have, wither it has happened before or wither it’s a first time ever dream match. Here are my five picks for matches I would like to see Daniel Bryan have in a WWE ring.
Ring of Honor War of the Worlds 2014: Kevin Steen vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Revolution Pro: Shinsuke Nakamura vs Zack Sabre Jr
Match of the Day:
NJPW: Brock Lesnar vs Shinsuke Nakamura
